Charles Phillips Oracle, formerly a captain from the United States Marines Corp and the president at the enterprise software development giant Oracle now heads the operations at Infor as the CEO. Infor is an Atlanta based software development firm catering to small and mid-sized firms, currently looking to expand its spheres of influence in the relevant market is positive of roping in Charles and his expertise and experience that spans for more than 20 yrs. Charles replaces Jim Schaper who was the erstwhile CEO but still heads the company as the chairman and is responsible for all the important decisions.
The academic career of Charles Phillips encompasses various degrees and decorations viz. acquiring BS in Computer Science from the United States Air Force Academy, MBA from the Hampton University and also a JD from the New York Law School. He also is a prestigious member of the bar at Washington DC and Georgia. After such an academic build up, Charles Phillips Oracle started his corporate career as a software analyst, working in various investment banking firms on the Wall Street. His fortunes were just about to change when he was hired as a software analyst at Morgan Stanley; this is where his skills and competencies caught the eyes of Larry Ellison.
Larry Ellison had Charles Phillips in the Oracle workforce and his entire positive views on the latter came true. Charles had a vision to see Oracle as a complete software solutions provider to their clients, thus he wanted to fill in all the gaps in the product line offered by the company. This was possible only by acquiring firms in the same vertical industry. Before Charles came into Oracle, the firm had just taken over not so well known firms like Indicast, Steltor and NetForce. But the scene changed as Charles Phillips Oracle stepped in and the firm took over PeopleSoft for a sum of $10.3bn in 2005, Retek, an retail apps firm for $630m, banking application company i-flex, for $900mn and Siebel for a shade under $6bn in 2006. Sun Microsystems can be regarded as one of the biggest acquisition made by Oracle just after Charles had left for Infor.
The revenue of Oracle also enjoyed new heights as they were making a steady growth of 15% per year. 7 years of invaluable service from Charles Phillips to Oracle was well reflecting in the revenue that had grown by 300% and the total sales for 2010 stood for $26.8bn.
